I’ve always been interested in sustainability and the environment. When I joined Inspirit AI (a program that introduces students to fundamental AI concepts and guides them to code a solution with social impact), I chose the topic of sustainable farming.

Alongside a small group of students, I examined the correlation between the bacterial composition of the soil and the crop yield from different farms. We then ran simulations using different bacteria to see how they would affect crop yields. We made two models that were able to predict crop yield based on the bacterial count and composition in the soil, which can help predict the right bacteria to add to the soil to increase the crop yield from the same farmland area. This experience improved my programming and data analysis skills.
